One Month Anniversary in Parnu, Estonia!

June 3rd marked my one month anniversary for being on the road!

So it seems fitting that I took a two day break from all the big cities and relaxed on the beach in Parnu, Estonia.  Parnu is know as Estonia`s leading seaside resort and it sounded great for a couple days to relax and get out to the beach.

When I got to the beach, it was surprised how white the sand was.  It was so soft and the beach stretched on for miles, and there really wasn`t anyone there.  Plus the beach was so huge and the water was so far away, it seems like the beach was bigger than it was.  On top of this, the water was so shallow, I could walk out over 150 meters and only get wet up to my knees.  Didn`t make for much swimming, but really nice to walk out into the water to cool down.  I went further out and was able to swim in the Parnu bay and enjoy the beach.  Oh it`s nice to travel…

Estonia - 2008 (5)

My time in Parnu was very chill.  I was there mid week, so very few tourists, and I had an entire dorm room (6 beds) all to myself.  So it was a nice break which allowed me to relax and read a lot.

Besides, just seeing the water, I did walk around the cute little town and out to see a few of the Russian orthodox churches before hitting the beach.  Had to get a little culture in.

So I went to the beach both days and noticed there were volleyball courts set up, and many people that were playing  I was watching and trying to find a way to join a court, but everyone came to the beach in pairs and it was almost a practice time for them.  I later found out there is a big beach volleyball tournament in July, so I think they were all practicing for that.  I even asked two different courts that only had 3 people on the sand if they needed a 4th and said I played a lot in California.  Unfortunately, they didn`t need another player (as the other was on the way) and I didn`t get to play at all. So I did the next best thing, and went to the bar overlooking the beach courts and had a nice large beer and watched the guys play for the next hour or so.

All in all, a great two days but I was ready to move onto a larger city and head south to Latvia  to meet others and have more fun.
