My Decision To Travel The World For A Year (2008)

Well I`ve been thinking about traveling around the world for many years and knew there would be a time in my life when I knew it was right and I know this is the time.

After working at Bernstein for almost 7 years (both in San Francisco and New York), I want to move on and see what else is out there for me.  I`m making plans for my travels knowing I will resign after I get Lasik surgery on March 21st.  I thought it would be prudent to keep my health insurance through that date just in case.  I know…always planning in the future for anything that may happen.

Also after being in New York for 3 years, I think I need to take a break from the cold and snowy winters and hot and humid summers.  Both weather extremes were new to me when I moved to New York, and I don`t know how crazy I am for either.  I`m hoping to chase the summer around the world and plan my travels to stay in the warm zones (well except for Antarctica – but I`ll be able to rent the right clothes for the cold weather).

So, I`m dreaming of all the places I haven`t been to yet, the ones I want to return to and what great adventures may be ahead for me.

The first step is creating my rough route map.  You can check out where I`m planning on going (on “My Map” tab) and see roughly when I hope to be there.  This is very rough as I know I`ll meet people that will suggest other places, but this is the general direction I plan to go and places I want to hit for sure.

Please let me know if you want to meet me anywhere, as I`d love for friends to come meet me along the way for a week, two or more.

As of now, I plan to have the following visitors:

  • London (Beginning of trip in May) – Visit Amber and Richard (who live there)
  • Croatia (July 8-13) – Jenny and Courtney
  • Greece and Turkey (July 19-30)- Colin
  • India, Nepal and Thailand (Sept 20-mid Oct) – Debbie
  • Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam – (Oct 1-Nov 2) Vanessa
  • Singapore and Malaysia (November) – Colin
  • Melbourne, Australia (late December) – Vanessa (for Christmas with her family)
  • Sydney – Visit Monica and Effie (who live there)
  • Kim and Donny  – in Australia (well…they are hoping to join me  for two weeks around Christmas/New Years, but not set in stone yet)

Do you want to meet me somewhere?  Whatever time off you can afford to join me would be wonderful!

Now it will be a lot of work to figure out details, pack up my apartment and getting everything into storage, but I hope to be heading off to London around May 1st and start my amazing adventure (as I will be homeless on April 30th).

Stay tuned for more.
